The Nicholas & Dorothy Cummings Foundation

Founded in 1994 by the husband and wife team of Dr. Nicholas and Dorothy Cummings, its mission is to foster the inclusion of doctoral psychotherapy as an integral, indispensable part of healthcare delivery. Providers with special training in both behavioral and primary care are seen co-located with primary care physicians (PCPs) in behavioral/primary care settings serving as behavioral care providers (BCPs). To this end this, The Foundation funds training programs, research, publications and awards designed to provide a centrifugal force toward the development of behavioral care as an integral part of primary care. It is the view of the Founders that psychology has too long suffered from the self-imposed existence of two silos, one for mental health apart from the one for main-stream healthcare that receives the overwhelming majority of funding from both government and the private industry.
With the addition to its Board of Directors of Janet L. Cummings, Psy.D. and Andrew M. Cummings, J.D., LLM, this Foundation became a dedicated Cummings Family commitment that has endured.
